This morning we got up and loaded a moving van to the brim with sound gear and luggage, and then we headed north to Dreamland Studios! It took us a few hours to get up here, but the trip was great. I learned a lot of really cool stuff about this place too, like the song "Love Shack" by the B-52's (along with the rest of that album) was recorded here. It's pretty trippy to listen to that song and then hear drums in the actual space. That song IS this room.
We spent the whole afternoon and evening setting up gear and getting things ready for the shoot. Around 5pm, Andy and I had a thought about our cameras, specifically about whether they had arrived. Shortly after, Andy found a sticker on the door saying that we'd missed their delivery! Naturally, with it being 5pm, the FedEx offices were closed, but we decided to take a chance.
Andy and I drove 45 minutes to the distribution center, which was closed and empty except for just a couple of cars. Andy banged on the doors for a bit before giving up. Just as we started walking back to the van, Andy caught sight of a woman through an office window. She was reluctant to help at first, but once Andy got on his knees (literally) and begged to the poor, terrified woman, she caved. She waved us around to the back, where a very nice man dug up our package. NOW we can shoot a video!
This is a pretty cool town, man. For dinner we grabbed some pizzas from a local place. The whole town is basically this one small strip. But apparently each year on the third Saturday in August they do a big fireworks show in West Hurley. That stuff was LOUD! And a really cool surprise. People were parked up and down the strip, just standing outside watching the lights.
I guess it's time to tack one more magical Snarky Family trip onto the list.
